As we approach the start of 2024, many of us are reflecting on the past year and making plans and resolutions for the next. We want to improve our health, finances, relationships, and more. These are all great goals, but as Christians, we must remember to put God at the center of all our plans.
Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us that God has good plans for us. His plans are not random but are specifically designed with our well-being and hope in mind. Rather than relying on our limited human understanding, we need to trust in the Lord and submit all our ways to Him (Proverbs 3:5-6). When we do this, He will direct our paths.
It's easy to boldly declare our own plans for the coming year. However, James 4:13-15 warns us that we do not know what tomorrow may bring. Our lives are like a mist that appears briefly and vanishes. Instead of boasting about our own plans, we ought to humbly say "If the Lord wills, we will do this or that." All our plans should be contingent on God's leading.
As you look to 2024, spend time praying and asking God to reveal His plans for you. Surrender your desires to Him, asking that He give you the longings of your heart and make your plans succeed according to His will (Psalm 20:4). Seek God's wisdom for navigating each day (Psalm 90:12).
While we can make practical plans for things like health, finances, and relationships, the key is holding these goals with an open hand. God may have other purposes and plans beyond what we can imagine. Press on towards Christ, our ultimate goal and prize, forgetting what lies behind (Philippians 3:13-14).
I pray that 2024 is a year full of discovering God's plans for your life. May you sense His guidance, peace, and purpose as you follow Him each day. God bless you!
